The department ELEC of the VUB, organizes the 5th edition of a 4 weeks spring school (from Monday 21st of May 2012 till Friday the 15th of June 2012) to give an intensive training on advanced modelling and simulation techniques of (non)linear dynamic systems, starting from experimental data. Besides classical courses and exercises, we also provide hands-on experience by working on experimental data that you will measure yourself. The participants should have a good basic knowledge in system theory and signal processing.

Mission of the department ELEC

 "ELEC" stands for "Fundamental Electricity and Instrumentation" (in dutch: "Algemene Elektriciteit en Instrumentatie") and the name corresponds with the educational and research tasks and objectives of the department. The main research activity of the department is the development of new measurement techniques using advanced signal processing methods, embedded in an identification framework. The long term objective of the department is the realization of the IMMI project (Interpretation by Measuring, Modelling and Identification), since 1989. Beside this main project, which covers a broad spectrum of several related activities, also some other independent research projects (national or European funding) are at stake.

• Team A: Physical communication, estimation of parameters in distributed systems and laboratory of marine acoustics
• Team B: System identification and parameter estimation of linear and non-linear systems
• Team C: The study of microwave systems
• Team D: The IMEC/VUB-ELEC laboratory for microwave microelectronic measurements and modelling (4M)
• Team E: Identification of biogeochemical signals & systems (IBiSS)
