We are very glad to welcome as a new BEMEKO member the Light & Lighting Laboratory of the Sint-Lieven University College of Ghent (head : prof. Peter Hanselaer).

This laboratory grew very fast since its foundation in 1997 in close cooperation with the Flemish industry.

It is presently one of the most important research centers at the university level in Belgium in the domain of light and lighting. It is equipped with a large range of measuring instruments for optical and photometric characterizations. It is also active in international institutions as CIE (International Commission for Illumination).

This membership enlarges the scope of the association to domains of measurement not yet represented (until now, the members were all specialized in electrical measurements) namely photonics (IMEKO Technical Committee n°2). Indeed, the aim of TC2 is "to promote Modern Optical Measuring Techniques in its development (theory, bases and application), which are based on the Detection and/or Observation of an Interaction of Photons or Electromagnetic Radiation with an Item under test".
